Obtaining citizenship by ancestry

Date of the court case: December 2024

A citizen of the Russian Federation, whose father was a Turkish citizen, but with Russian citizenship, contacted our company. However, due to circumstances, our client and his mother had lived in Russia all their lives, and the client held only Russian citizenship. The client's father, a citizen of Turkey and Russia, had passed away by the time the client decided to apply for Turkish citizenship.

Together with the client, we collected and prepared a complete package of documents necessary to apply for citizenship:

  • Birth certificate with apostille
  • Marriage certificate of parents with apostille
  • Death certificate of father with apostille
  • Statement on family composition from mother with apostille
  • Internal passport of the deceased and other additional documents for identification
  • Power of attorney from the client to conduct business

All documents were translated into Turkish and prepared in accordance with the requirements of Turkish government authorities. After submitting the documents to the authorized body, due to the lack of information about the client’s father, who had lived outside Turkey for a long time, it was necessary to find two witnesses who could confirm and verify the identity of our client and his late father. We were able to contact the sisters of the deceased, who provided notarized witness statements.

The citizenship application was submitted in April 2022, and the decision to grant it was received in March 2023. Subsequently, we assisted the client in preparing internal documents for a Turkish citizen.

In addition, the client has children, who were also granted Turkish citizenship in the shortest possible time based on their pedigree (father's side).
