How to bring a vehicle into Turkey?

Hello, the information in this publication will be useful to those who plan to visit the Turkey by their own car or who already live here and want to bring car for its further use.

It is possible to bring your car to Turkey for people who live outside Turkey within the scope of Tourist Amenities. To do so you have to have lived outside of Turkey for at least 185 days in the last year before your date of entry into Turkey.


Due to pandemics, in case of emergency, when you cannot leave the country, you must apply for a temporary extension of the car’s stay in Turkey until the borders open.

The person bringing the car into Turkey should have a residential permit and an address in a foreign country.

The car should also have a registration in a foreign country.

 The duration of stay for the car in Turkey cannot be longer than the duration of stay in Turkey of the owner of the car.

Turkish citizens, Turkish national dual citizens and people with residence permit can stay for a maximum of 2 years in Turkey with their cars.

For cars belonging to a corporate business this is a maximum of 90 days.

If you stay longer than the allowed time, you can get a fine of up to 780 TL, depending on the exceeded time.

It is very important to know that if the deadline for the car in Turkey exceeds more than 90 days, then you will pay a fine up to 25% of the customs duty of the car. Therefore, it is necessary to be careful and not allow it.

The documents needed to bring your car to Turkey are:

  • A valid passport of the car owner (ID-card is also possible)
  • An in Turkey valid traffic insurance policy for the car
  • A certificate of ownership of the car
  • A valid letter of attorney or rental agreement
  • A valid driving licence
